2020 BLACK HISTORY AT ASSATA SPEAKS
THE GREATNESS OF BLACK LEADERSHIP IN MINNESOTA
Youth from WE WIN Institute presented an evening of acknowledgement, respect, and love, to numerous elders in the Black community on February 27, 2020 at the Black History Month presentation of Assata Speaks. Each of the leaders in attendance spoke to the packed crowd inside Brave New Workshop theater in downtown Minneapolis. The evening was capped off with a keynote speech by Professor Mahmoud El-Kati, who was given an award for his lifetime of service.
Those in attendance that we honored were:
Josie Johnson, Civil Rights activist / Author / Educator
Reatha Clark King, Chemist / Former Head of General Mills Foundation
Nothando Zulu, Masterstoryteller / President, Black Storytellers Alliance
Mahmoud El-Kati, Professor / Historian / Author / African Griot
Chauntyll Allen and Titilayo Bediako hosted the evening that also included performances by WE WIN youth (African drum & dance), MC Longshot, Shavunda Brown, and Professor Malachi along with the DJ of the night, DJ Scipreme.
